sixteen blackbirds were discussing lunch behind her eyelids and
if she listened they flew away and more men thought she was flirting
we had to let them down again when she woke up
like she always does when she gets there
she sat perched on the edge of the conversation and watched
something behind a door that she could open but didn’t
I guess maybe it was like that but I wasn’t her and
she couldn’t tell me anything more about her flight patterns
come along now I said to her and her body did
you’re not what I thought it said disappointed and
flapping away at the pavement with her toes and sighing
like the branches of trees just released by sparrows
some fluffy little sheep were trying to find her eyelids
and she wanted to remove her tight spanky-doll dress
we had to let them down again when she woke up
like she always does when she gets there
